FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Austin, TX)—September 26, 2023— Austin PBS is delighted to announce the latest addition to its esteemed team, a move aimed at bolstering its unwavering commitment to the diverse and vibrant community it serves. Today, Austin PBS proudly introduces Fely Garcia Amador as its new Vice President of Community Engagement.

Fely brings with her an impressive background, boasting over 20 years of experience in Community Relations, with a strong focus on the Hispanic community of Central Texas. In her previous role as Community Empowerment Director at Univision Austin, Fely dedicated herself to fostering relationships with both nonprofit and for-profit organizations, creating a platform for the Spanish-speaking community to stay informed about critical issues such as health, education, civic engagement, and financial well-being. Her efforts resulted in the organization of numerous events, including education fairs, health fairs, citizenship forums, and entrepreneurial events, all aimed at empowering the Austin community.

“What truly sets Fely apart is her unwavering commitment to connecting with the community on a personal level. She will serve as a bridge between the community and our organization, advocating for self-sufficiency and ensuring that individuals know where to turn for assistance in various areas of life”, said Luis Patiño, President and CEO of Austin PBS.

Beyond her remarkable professional accomplishments, Fely is profoundly passionate about celebrating the rich tapestry of Latin American culture that thrives in Central Texas. She has worked tirelessly to create and collaborate on culturally relevant events, ranging from Día De Las Madres (Mother’s Day) to Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and historic commemorations such as El Grito Desde El Capitolio (Mexico’s Independence Day from the Capitol). Fely's unwavering dedication to fostering collaboration with the city, county, and state to sustain these celebrations has set an exceptional example.

Fely's dedication extends far beyond the workplace, as she has made significant contributions by serving on influential boards, including the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas- Austin, AVANCE, AAF Austin (formerly known as Ad Fed), Pflugerville Education Foundation, SafeKids Coalition, and the Community Advisory Board for Austin PBS.

Originally hailing from Brownsville, Texas, Fely is a proud alumna of the University of Texas at Austin, Hook’em! and has made Austin her cherished home. Her family's legacy in education and research has profoundly shaped her work, solidifying her role as a dedicated advocate for positive change.

Today, Fely resides in Pflugerville, Texas, alongside her loving husband, Rick, and their two remarkable children, Mykal and Emma, along with their canine companions, Trinity and Sheera.

Austin PBS is excited to have Fely Amador join the team as a vital part of our Austin PBS family, and we invite you to join us in welcoming her to the neighborhood. Her passion, experience, and dedication will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in our continued mission to improve the lives of the communities we serve.
